There is great hope for a golden generation to emerge in Norwegian football. Even if the results of the Norwegian national team haven’t been great lately, the emergence of Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard gives hope that the first qualification for a major tournament since 2000 is only a question of time. The next Norwegian talent to emerge and perhaps help end the bad run of the Norwegian national team could be Sverre Nypan.

The central midfielder made his debut for Rosenborg BK in November 2022—breaking the record for the youngest player in club history at 15 years, 10 months, and 18 days. This season, Nypan has been a regular starter for his club and increased his market value to €5m. That made him one of the few bright spots of an otherwise disappointing season for Rosenborg. The club finished the season, which ended last weekend in ninth place.

“Nypan is an attacking midfielder with a high football IQ,” Transfermarkt data scout ARTURUS said. “He can use both feet, is creative and a great passer, is good with the ball and has a high work rate. As a no.8, he doesn’t forget his defensive responsibilities. Fundamentally, he is already a complete midfielder; the only weaknesses are consistency and being clinical in front of the goal.”

Not surprisingly, the big teams in Europe have already started to scout the 16-year-old. Last summer, Manchester City and Benfica were very interested, but Nypan renewed his contract with Rosenborg until December 31, 2026. “I won’t leave this winter, that won’t happen,” Nypan said to the Norwegian online magazine Nettavisen

Rosenborg fans, therefore, can enjoy their wonderkid for at least six more months, but sooner rather than later, the financial situation of the club makes a transfer of their top talent inevitable. Leading the negotiations will be Rafaela Pimenta—the successor of Mino Raiola, who passed away in 2022. Pimenta also represents Haaland, and her agency, One, won the race to sign the latest Norwegian talent.

Haaland, De Ligt & Co. Players represented by Rafaela Pimenta Overview It was a hard fought battle. Sverres father Arne Nypan said in an interview with the Norwegian station TV2 that between 50 and 60 agencies contacted him. “We were invited to go on trips for negotiations to places like the Cayman Islands or Monaco,” the older Nypan said, who wants to keep his son isolated from the contract negotiations as much as possible.

Ultimately, Pimenta won out because the Brazilian had a plan. “She said we have to think long-term,” Nypan’s father said. “Sverre is supposed to be young as long as possible. I needed to promise her that he had enough time with his friends away from the Rosenborg players, that he would do normal things, and that he would be a good footballer while also doing well in school. Erling [Haaland] was 18 when he left Norway. I think it is a good idea to show patience.”

Arne Nypan seemed to be surprised about the agent’s attitude. “It is very easy to lose patience in this ongoing player carousel,” Nypan senior said. “She showed that she wants to be on our side, be supportive, and think long term … she highlighted all that.” His son didn’t find out until that evening at the dinner table that he had a meeting with Primenta. “That sounds cool,” Nypan’s father said when asked what his son said when he found out. “'We will take her,' my son said. He then winked at me and said: ‘if Erling Braut Haaland can do it, then I can do it too.’” A statement that underlines Nypan’s self-confidence.
