West Ham make formal bid for En-Nesyri - Sevilla striker could become top January transfer
Following the departure of club-record signing Sébastien Haller, who joined Ajax for about half the €50 million that West Ham paid to Frankfurt 18 months ago, the Hammers are in the market for at least one striker. As The Athletic reports, Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri is thought to be the Premier League club’s top target.
West Ham are understood to have made a formal bid of €25 million plus €5 million in add-ons over the weekend to acquire the services of the 23-year-old, who, as of now, would surpass Haller as the most expensive January transfer as a result. In the centre-forward position, manager David Moyes only has Michail Antonio left after losing his best scorer (7 goals in 19 matches across all competitions) to Ajax and desperately needs reinforcements up front. The initial bid for En-Nesyri was rejected but negotiations are set to continue.
Sevilla only signed En-Nesyri from Leganés in January 2020, triggering his €20 million buy-out clause. He scored 18 goals in 51 appearances for the LaLiga outfit including eight league goals in the current campaign. In case of a transfer to East London, the Morocco international would rank among the top 5 of West Ham’s most expensive signings in history.
