The Philadelphia Union have secured the club's first-ever Supporters' Shield after beating New England Revolution 2-0 on MLS Decision Day. Awarded to the club with the most points after the regular season, the Supporters' Shield guarantees home advantage in the MLS Cup Playoffs and a Concacaf Champions League spot (US-based clubs only).

For Philadelphia to win the title, they had to simply better any result produced by Toronto FC. The Reds, however, struggled on Decision Day and would ultimately fall to the New York Red Bulls. The Red Bulls struck twice in the first half. First, Tom Barlow scored in the 24th minute, and then Brian White doubled the lead just two minutes later to double the lead for the Red Bulls.

Then in the 50th minute, Tsubasa Endoh pulled one back with a right-footed shot. Toronto pressed for an equalizer, but in the parallel game, the Philadelphia Union were 1-0 ahead thanks to a 42nd-minute strike by Sergio Santos. Then in the 63rd minute, Cory Burke doubled the lead for the Union. In New York, Toronto were the better side, but the result stood securing the Union their first-ever major title.

Montreal Impact and Inter Miami secure playoffs - Atlanta United miss out

Elsewhere, Atlanta United have missed the playoffs for the first time in the club's history. The Five Stripes fell 2-1 to the Columbus Crew on Decision Day. The Montreal Impact, in the meantime, eliminated D.C. United. Down 1-0 and then 2-1, the Impact came from behind to win the game 3-2 in the most dramatic fashion.

That result also benefitted the expansion side Inter Miami CF. The league's newest club beat FC Cincinnati 2-1 thanks to goals by Mikey Ambrose (19') and Leandro González Pirez (23')—Joe Gyau (66') scored for Cincinnati. Partly owned by David Beckham, Inter Miami benefitted from the Chicago Fire's 4-3 defeat to New York City FC and Atlanta losing to the Crew.
